The great Sandpit

Thomas de Thier & 52' — 1998

People in a hurry are already dead » sings Ibrahim, a young nomad, while racing cars are rushing in the desert to disappear at the far end of the Sahara.
Thomas, a filmmaker from Brussels, has been invited by his friend Ali to film his wedding in the middle of the desert. Like all tourists, Thomas is afraid of being late… But his car breaks down.
He meets Ibrahim who offers to guide him. Only, Thomas will have to follow his friend’s pace. Ibrahim lives in a time that has stopped, in a desert where dinosaurs’ skeletons, rupestrian paintings, traces of explorers, of Tintin and le Petit Prince are found, as well as landscapes from Lawrence of Arabia, and echoes from a tormented present.
Real-life action and playful documentary, « The great sandpit » is at the same time a western travelogue and an esatern tale. In it, the desert become a huge sandglass.
