Born in Brussels in 1978, Caroline Hack graduated from INRACI with a degree in cinematography.
Her professional career began in the field of cinematography. She worked as a director of
photography on various audiovisual projects and several documentaries.
Soon, her passion for directing caught up with her, and she directed her first documentary in
2006, profiling Marcel Hastir, a 97-year-old Brussels painter whose home at 51 Rue du Commerce
served as a cultural, musical, and artistic hub in Brussels for decades.
Starting in 2010, she worked behind the camera for RTBF, directing, filming, and editing short
commissioned films for various organizations. A social dimension is inherent in each of her
projects.
For Caroline Hack, directing and cinematography are inseparable, which is why she is deeply
committed to framing her own shots.

In 2018, her encounter with Simona Montorfano reignited her
desire to undertake a new personal documentary project. Twenty years have passed since the
release of her first film, “51, rue du Commerce.”
With this new project, the challenge is to depict a particularly difficult and complex family and
social situation. Giving a voice to those who do not have one through documentary film resonates
deeply with her artistic approach.
