A rare excursion into North Korea, one of the world’s last communist countries, as seens through the eyes of a young woman from Antwerp, of Korean extraction. Belgian by adoption, she returns to the country where she was born and whose language she never learned. But beyond the subdued stereotypes of everyday life? The filmmaker goes out to meet the country’s men and women. And there where nature and men’s lives unfold, there will always be sounds that break the silence, even in « the land of morning calm ». Thanks to Mi Kyong – the interpreter who became the central figure of the film – we delve a bit deeper into the daily existence of these people across the globe, whose singular communist experience has extended over more than fifty years.
