In Senegal, aggressive industrialization brings about expropriation of populations and land contamination. In Bargny-Minam, Ydi Gueye is confronted with the building of an industrial port on the outskirts of his village. Bandia is forced to leave his home in Sabodala, soon to be replaced by a gold mine. As for Pape Moussa, he returned to cultivate contaminated fields in abandoned phosphate quarries. Six thousand kilometers away, in a Belgian former industrial center, Fadel Wade walks through the ruins of European industrialization.
What remains after industry ? Are the traces left by our respective industrial pasts so different ? Can we have an overview of our own stories through other people’s ?
