In a spiraling narrative, Veuves ! interweaves history with the past through the lives of women ranging in age from 86 to 91. Widows of Italian immigrant origin, they left their country for their husbands, who had come to contribute their labor in the mines and steel industry.
My mother plays a part in this story, as does my father, who, immortalized in my previous film, becomes here the ghost who takes us back to the bygone days of Liège’s industry.
With humor and tenderness, the film interweaves life stories whose formal variations weave a portrait of a generation and its inexorable demise.
