Vers des rêves impossibles

Chris Vermorcken & 52' — 1999

This film is a portrait of Danièle Roels, daughter end granddaughter of artists. On the evening of 5 December 1950, at the “Petit Bitter” in Brussels, a joyful gathering is celebrating the birth of a little girl… Fittingly, William Roels, the father, composes a score for piano, singing : “Her name is Danièle”. Meanwhile, the grandfather, Marcel Roels, orders free-flowing champagne for all his guests all night long. Danièle’s birth fills with joy the little family of artists. The scenario moves along through the years of a happy childhood and adolescence. Danièle Roels goes on stage in Paris in “Le Cocu magnifique” and triumphs in Brussels in “Mademoiselle Beulemans”. Danièle never misses a film, adores the theatre, collects autographs and dreams of meeting Jeanne Moreau. Naturally, Danièle thinks about attending the conservatory. Her career seems mapped out for her. And yet the unpredictable happens…
