Alexia Bonta was born in Brussels in 1982. She graduated from the Institute of Media Arts (IAD) and has a Master in Anthropology. Her desire to become a filmmaker began when she shot her first images with her grandfather. Later, she went to a geriatrics department in Brussels to make her end-of-studies film LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE. She filmed Marie and Marie-Claire who, on their deathbeds, gave her advice about marital life. Among others, the film received the Jury Award at the International Festival of Oberhausen in 2008, and the Award of the Brussels Audiovisual Centre (CBA). Troubled by her first encounters with so-called “demented” people, she made her documentary film BETWEEN HERE AND THERE, in a home for people with Alzheimer’s disease. She filmed the looks, gestures, smiles, rebellions and poems of Anna, Cécile, Mrs. Lemaire, Lady of the Wrinkles, Dorothée, Germaine, My Fair Lady,… at the hairdresser’s. She finished the film in February 2014. She is particularly interested in questions of memory and transmission.
