This is the first report of Marc Hoogsteyns, a oung journalist and film-maker. It deals with the life and the struggle of the « Peshmergas », those Kurdish rebels from Iran, who have been involved in the anti-iranian guerilla for almost ten years. During several months of 1986, Marc Hoogsteyns rejoins, as press photographer, the Kurdish rebels, thus getting to learn their language as well as their customs. Back in Belgium, his only wish is to return to Iran with a camera, so as to be able to film the life of the « Peshmergas ». With Dany Elsen, his cameraman, he drives across Turqey, crossing the Iranian frontier illegally and following the « Peshmergas » on one of ther long expeditions (more than 300 kilometers). This report is an account of the everyday life of those Kurds, of their mountain trips, of the cold and boredom they have to go through, of their love songs for women and above all their attacks against the Iranian army. These lonely, exhausted people, living far from their homes, have been barving death for years to defend their country: Kurdistan. An exceptional document, produced by the Audio-visual Centre of Brussels.
