Post-mortem

Fabrice George & 46' — 1998

On the 28th October 1991, the management of Sanofi Pharma announced the closure of their production site to the staff in Vilvoorde, Belgium. The lives of the 300 motived workers, employees and managers were turned upside-down, when they became just another group of anonymous victims of « downsizing », despite the profits of the enterprise. After six years of early retirement or unemployment, Paula, Tony and Clément bear witness. Post-Mortem reveals the existential vacuum which threatens to engulf them. How do you organize your life on the dole or early retirement when you have only had the experience of working to structure time and retain social dignity? How, at 48 years old, can you adapt when the force and the will to work are still there? Beyond the complaints and the compassion, this film stresses the urgency to rethink our culture of time and work, and to reinvent our social participation.
