Les passagers de l'Alsace

Rob Rombout & 52' — 2002

A stranger in transit poses his naive and curious gaze on a strange region of France, Alsace. But the perception of a region is a delicate act, even for those who live there. How to define one’s own identity and region is the question posed by foreigners to natives. He left to meet ten Alsatians, ten strong personalities involved in their profession or their passion, but who did not however claim their Alsatian identity. “What does a look mean? He asks an ophthalmologist, a model maker, a filmmaker and a painter. “How do you listen to the other? He asks a psychoanalyst, a musician and a radio host. “What is the relationship between earth and speed? He asks a winegrower, a station master and an athlete. “LES PASSAGERS DE L’’ALSACE” is both a documentary and an object of reflection: a look at a region from the very specific point of view of a stranger passing through.
