From nail to nail

Luc Jabon & 28' — 1986

« From nail to nail » is a film on the travel of masterpieces. When a painting is finished and when it has been selected for an exhibition (here, the biennial of Venice) what becomes of it? What happens during the transport, at the unpacking, the hanging up and the taking down? From nail to nail, that is to say from the moment the painter’s hand become permanently detached from the painting until the moment when the painting is settled, nailed to the wall at its return from an exhibition. Often, in art films, this part of the journey is not seen. Here, it is omnipresent, creating in this manner, a cloudy connection between the journey of the masterpieces, the road, the convoying officers, a dray and the indifferent and laughable world.
