Coeur de charbon

This is above all a film about memory. Twenty years after the closure of the collieries in Belgium and in France, pitface miners – the ultimate witnesses of a past marked by coal wars and mine disasters – tell of the breakthroughs in tunnelling, the journeys underground and the extraction of coal by every means and at any price. This is a life still etched into the present in the Polish mines of Upper Silesia. The page has not yet been turned completely, but where is the solidarity that allowed miners to face their lot? Is this the end of a world that makes up an entire chapter of social history?
