Calligraphist

Marie Storck & 26' — 1989

The portrait of Kwong Hing-Foon, a Chinese woman from Hong-Kong, an adept of calligraphy living in Paris. Her classes with Europeans students at the Institut de France and with specialists of ancient writing at the Musée Guimet. The peculiar feeling of China in Paris, the XIII arrondissement where she offers to be our guide. The food-shops, the restaurants with neon signs – unlike any other corner of Paris – catch our eye with their writing, their signs. Her apartment is crammed with all her souvenirs, her paint brushes, books, scrolls, where she concentrates on her work of calligraphist in a constant quest for perfection and creativity. The film concentrates on her daily training with the 1000 letters treatise and on the amidextrous executions for a wedding present.
