Born in Geneva, Isabelle Rey has lived in Brussels since graduating from INSAS (‘Mise en scène -Théâtre’ section).
Although she began her career in the theatre as an author and director, she went on to work in the film industry, first as an assistant director, then as a production manager and finally as a director.
In 2006, she began making documentaries, films and radio programmes. Her favourite themes include transmission, care and human links.
She has made « Histoire de lire » (Reading tales) (2007), about a librarian passing on the pleasure of reading to children; « Passé composé » (Past Tense composition) (2011), based on the disappearance of a family home, which looks at transmission and inheritance; and « La Vie est là » (Life is here) (2017), about art taking care of people, following artists working in hospitals. Her final film, « Dans leur monde »(2025), plunges into the world of people with cognitive degeneration, through an experience of respectful welcome.
Her radio work includes five documentaries: « Les lettres fleurissent au printemps » (2012), « Retour à la maison » (2016), « Cocon musical » (2018), « Rose, ses voisines et le canari » (2020) and « Pas ici, pas là, où? » (2025).
She teaches documentary writing at the Agnès Varda School (Brussels), and has run documentary workshops for the ZIN TV association.
