In « Beyond words, the cinema of Joachim Lafosse », sixth title from the Cinéastes d’aujourd’hui collection – a documentary series about Belgian film directors – Luc Jabon guides us into a cinematographic journey from a director who made 7 fiction movies in only 15 years. Joachim Lafosse is considered as one of the most influential European young directors and his films are selected in major film festivals such as Cannes and Venice. He weaves both tense and sensitive stories : from a divorce to a crime that shocked Belgium, from the urge to direct a movie with no money to a mother’s relationship with her twins. Luc Jabon met his closest team of collaborators and drives us into the Joachim Lafosse cinema and its filmography. Peeping on him while editing, working on set, listening to his personal story reveals his close relation to intimacy and boundaries. Those encoutered and crossed by its characters. And, in essence, his own too.
